Black Hair Tips: How to Care for Your Natural Hair

To prevent our hair from becoming fragile, dry or damaged, it is important to keep a care routine. This article introduces some ways to help keep the hair healthy and hydrated while reducing breakage.

 Wash weekly
The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) recommend washing tightly coiled hair once a week or less. While washing, massage the scalp gently. Pat the hair dry with a towel, rather than rubbing it.

 Use conditioner
Look for gentle, moisturizing shampoos, and use a conditioner with each wash, making sure that it coats the ends of the hair, as the ends are the oldest and most fragile part of your hair.


 Comb while the hair is wet
Curly hair can tangle easily, making it prone to break while brushing. Apply moisturizer, divide the hair into sections and comb each section with a wide-toothed or detangling comb.

 Use a hot oil treatment twice a month
This adds additional moisture and elasticity to your hair. Before applying a new oil to your hair for the first time, make sure you do a patch test in the area close to your scalp. Massage the scalp in small circles with your fingers. 

 Choose protective style
